Below, is a gun stock restoration project that I did.
The stock was worn and stained by hand oils.
The polyurethane had bubbled up into what furniture refurnishers refer to as "alligator tears" which is best displayed in the botton "Before" picture.
The stock was stripped and cleaned.
It was then coated with a light coat of a nartural wood stain and wiped down several times, as the stain kept bleeding back to the surface and left to dry.
The next day, the 1st of 5 coats of polyurethane was applied to the stock and left to dry for 2 - 3 hours.
The stock was then sanded down with 0000 steel wool between each coat of polyurethane and the process was repeated until the final coat, which was left to dry for 48 hours.
It is recommended that the gun is left to sit for at least 1 week before resuming "normal" usage.
